9.5 In the Energy Saver preferences, use the Battery tab to adjust the battery settings.
3. The default settings should work fine in most cases, but you might make some adjustments depend-
ing on the battery life/performance trade-offs that suit your working style:
Computer sleep. By default, this slider is set to 10 minutes for battery power. If you want to eke out
even more battery life, choose a shorter period of inactivity. If you want to wait for MacBook Air to
wake up less often, choose a longer period of inactivity.
Display sleep. By default, this slider is set to 2 minutes for battery power. If you need to study informa-
tion on the screen, choose a longer period of inactivity so the display doesn't go to sleep as often.
Put hard disks to sleep when possible. By default, this check box is selected. It means that MacBook
Air puts its hard drive to sleep whenever it detects that the drive has not been used for 10 minutes. If you
deselect this check box, MacBook Air still puts the hard drive to sleep, but only after 3 hours of inactiv-
ity.
Slightly dim the display while on battery power. Select this check box to have OS X reduce the dis-
play brightness while MacBook Air is running on battery power. This saves a bit of energy while still
keeping the screen readable.
