Storing iWork documents online
Most of the info stored on your iCloud account — e-mail messages, contacts, and appointments — is readily
available online even if you're not using MacBook Air. For example, if you're at work, at a friend's house, or at
an Internet café, you can still access your iCloud stuff by logging in to your account using whatever web
browser is handy.
The same can't be said for important files on MacBook Air, because once you leave MacBook Air behind, you
leave your files behind as well. Fortunately, iCloud can help here, too. Each iCloud account can store docu-
ments created using the iWork apps: Pages, Numbers, and Keynote. For example, if you use iWork on your
MacBook Air, you can upload documents to iCloud. Also, if you use the iOS versions of any of these apps, you
can set up automatic document synchronization between your iOS device and iCloud — and you can download
any synced documents to your MacBook Air.
First, here are the steps required to upload an iWork document from MacBook Air to iCloud:
1. On any iCloud page, click the Switch Apps icon (the cloud) and then click iWork. The iCloud iWork
page appears.
2. Click the tab for the type of iWork document you want to upload: Keynote, Pages, or Numbers.
3. Click Actions (the gear icon) and then click Upload Document. Your MacBook Air displays a file se-
lection dialog.
4. Click the document you want to upload, and then click Choose. iCloud uploads the document and dis-
plays a thumbnail version. Figure 5.8 shows the Pages tab with a few documents uploaded.
