Using Twitter
OS X Mountain Lion comes with built-in support for Twitter. This enables you to send tweets directly from
many OS X apps. For example, you can send a link to a web page from Safari or tweet a photo from Preview.
You can even take a flattering or funny shot of yourself using Photo Booth and then use that application to send
the shot directly to Twitter to use as your new profile picture. OS X also displays notifications if you're men-
tioned on Twitter or if a Twitter user sends you a direct message.
Configuring your Twitter account
Before you can tweet things to your Twitter followers or see Twitter notifications, you must sign in to your
Twitter account. Here are the steps to follow:
1. In the Dock, click System Preferences. You can also choose Apple → System Preferences. The System
Preferences window appears.
2. Click Mail, Contacts & Calendars. The Mail, Contacts & Calendars window appears.
3. Click the Twitter logo. If you don't see the Twitter logo, click any existing account and then click the
Add button (+) at the bottom of the account list. System Preferences prompts you for your Twitter username
and password.
4. Type your Twitter username and your Twitter password.
5. If you don't want other Twitter users to be able to locate you using your e-mail address, deselect
the Allow others to find me by email check box.
6. Click Sign In. OS X signs in to your Twitter account.
Adding Twitter usernames to your contacts
With nearly 200 million people on Twitter, chances are you know at least a few of them, and some of those
people just might be in your Contacts list. If so, then you'll be happy to know that OS X Mountain Lion offers a
ridiculously easy way to add your friends' Twitter usernames to the Contacts app. This OS X Mountain Lion
feature enables you to give permission for Twitter to update your contacts. Twitter examines the e-mail ad-
dresses and phone numbers in the Contacts app, and if it finds any that match Twitter users, it updates Contacts
with each person's username and account photo. Sweet!
Here's how it works:
1. In the Dock, click System Preferences. You can also choose Apple → System Preferences. The System
Preferences window appears.
