Globally updating styles
There are two ways to update paragraph, character, object, table, and cell styles in
InDesign. The first is simply to open a style options dialog box and make changes to the
formatting options. Because there's a link between the style and the text to which it's ap-
plied, all the text is updated to reflect any changes you make to the style.
The other way to update a style is to use local formatting to modify some text, and then
redefine the style based on the updated formatting. In this exercise, you'll make a change
to the Head 3 style to include a rule below it.
1.
Double-click page 4 in the Pages panel, then choose View > Fit Page In Window.

Using the Type tool ( ), drag to select the “Black Tea” subhead at the top of the
first column.

If necessary, click the Character Formatting Controls button ( ) in the Control
panel. Type

in the Font Size box and press Enter (Windows) or Return (Mac
OS).

Choose Type > Paragraph to display the Paragraph panel. Choose Paragraph Rules
from the panel menu.
