Fig. 5 Phenylephrine (PE) reverses the antinociceptive effects of the THa vector
on mechanical hyperalgesia ( a ) and cold allodynia ( b ). Phenylephrine, at the dose
of 10 µg, was administered 22 days after THa injection into the DRt. Time 0 rep-
resents the baseline responses determined before drug injection. Data are
presented as mean ± SEM ( n = 6 for each group); * P <0.05, ** P <0.01 THa + PE
vs. THa + saline
2. Set up a 5 µl/min fl ow into a microdialysis syringe pump to
fl ush inlet and outlet peek tubes (BAS Inc., West Lafayette,
USA) and the probe (nominal molecular weight cutoff of
30 kDa; BAS Inc., West Lafayette, USA).
3. Connect the inlet and outlet of the probe to the inlet and out-
let peek tubing, respectively.
4. Flush at 5 µl/min with 70 % ethanol, then with ultra purifi ed
water, and fi nally with an artifi cial cerebrospinal fl uid solution
