9 g NaCl.

1,000 ml PBS.
3 ml Triton X-100.
Store at 4 °C.

Formol-thionin staining solutions :

Acid Acetone

4 vol acetone/1 vol acetic acid.
Prepare freshly before use.

Thionin

0.1 g thionin.
100 ml of 10 % formalin.
Filter and add three drops of acetic acid before use.
Store at room temperature (RT) for 6 months.

Artifi cial cerebrospinal fl uid (aCSF)

150 mM NaCl.
31 mM KCl.
1.7 mM CaCl 2 .
0.9 mM MgCl 2 .

Filter using a 0.2 µm fi lter and store at 4 °C for 2 weeks

Antioxidant solution
100 ml purifi ed water.
700 µl perchloric acid.
400 µl 0.25 M EDTA.
2.6 mg sodium bisulfate.
Filter using a 0.2 µm fi lter and store at 4 °C for 6 months.
