Afteryouhaveselectedthepointsyouwanttoselect,youcanrotate,scale,andtranslateselectedpointssim-
ilarly to the way you would with vertices in a mesh, by using the R key, S key, and G key, respectively. The
active hair-editing toolwillworkonlyontheselected points.Inthisway,youcancomb,cut,lengthen, orother-
wiseeditspecifichairswithoutaffectingotherhairs.BypressingtheHkey,youcanhideselected hairs.Hidden
hairs do not disappear but rather are displayed as white. They are invisible to the edit tool, however, so you can
usethehidefunctiontomaskoffportionsofthehairwhileeditingothers.YoucanalsouseProportionalEditing
tools when editing hair, just as you would when editing a mesh.
Tip Select mode, shown in Figure 6-45 , enables you to work with the tips of the hair only. In the figure, the
tips displayed as orange were selected by using the Box Select tool. When you comb the hair in this mode, the
effect of the combing is diminished along the length of the hair toward the root. This enables you to fine-tune
the ends of the hair without disrupting the overall shape of the strand.
