In-Depth Information
If you want a layout for your photo book that isn't available in the Modify Page
pop-up menu, then you can do a pretty slick little workaround (which I learned
from Adobe's own Lightroom Evangelist, Julieanne Kost), which is to go to the Print
module, design any custom page layout you want (at the same size as your book)
with the photos you want, save it as a JPEG file, and import that finished layout into
Lightroom as if it was just one photo. It's not actually a template, but it looks like you
used one.
Custom Template
Workaround
Step One:
First, jump over to Lightroom's Print module,
and click on the Page Setup button in the
lower-left corner. When the Page Setup (PC:
Print Setup) dialog appears, from the Paper
Size pop-up menu, choose Manage Custom
Sizes to bring up the dialog you see here
(on a PC, click the Properties button, then in
the Paper Options section, click the Custom
button). You're going to create a new preset
size (so you don't have to go through this
again). Click the + (plus sign; shown circled
here in red), and enter 7 in for both Width
and Height (PC: Length), for Blurb's Small
Square 7x7" book. On a Mac, you'll need to
set all your margins (left, top, right, bottom)
to 0 in, then click OK twice. Now this tem-
plate is one click away in the future. While
you're here, though, you might want to cre-
ate presets for all the Blurb sizes (like 10x8",
8x10", 13x10", and 13x13").
Step Two:
Now design any layout you'd like in the Print
module. For this layout, I used one of the
built-in presets that comes with Lightroom
called 4 Wide (found in the Template
Browser panel in the left side Panels area).
Once the template appeared, I selected the
four photos I wanted in this layout, then I
turned the Identity Plate checkbox off in
the Page panel in the right side Panels area.
I only changed two small settings in the
Layout panel, so it all fits nicely in the 7x7
square we're using. I set the bottom and
top margins to 0.44 in and left the sides at
0.50 in, which gives you the layout you see
here (there isn't a layout like this in the Book
module's templates).
