In-Depth Information
If you've been using Lightroom for a while, you know the text capabilities have
been really limited. But, when it came to topics, Adobe added their full-featured
type engine right into the Book module, so you have a surprising amount of
control over how your type looks and where you can put it. Now, if we can
only get them to put a copy of the Book module's type feature over into the
Slideshow and Print modules (don't get me started).
Adding Text and
Captions to Your
Photo Book
Step One:
There are two ways to add text to your
photo topic: (1) Choose a page layout that
has a text area already in place, so all you
have to do is click in the text box and start
typing. Or, (2) you can add a text caption
to any page by going to the Caption panel
(in the right side Panels area) and turning
on the Photo Caption checkbox, as shown
here. Now you'll see a yellow horizontal
text box appear across the bottom of your
image. To add your caption, just click and
start typing.
Step Two:
The Align with Photo checkbox keeps your
caption aligned with your photo when
you add padding to the photo's cell. So, as
you shrink your photo within the cell, your
caption will shrink within its cell, too. You
can tweak exactly how far away your cap-
tion is from your photo using the Offset
slider—the farther you drag it to the right,
the farther away the text moves from your
image (as seen here). Note: If you want to
have Lightroom select a text box for you,
go under the Edit menu and choose Select
All Text Cells (this is handy if you have a
page with three photos and three captions,
and you want to turn all the captions off—
just choose Select All Text Cells and then
turn the Photo Caption checkbox off to
hide them from view).
