CHAPTER 11
BOOK OF LOVE
creating photo books
The ability to create photo books has been
on photographers' wish lists ever since
Lightroom was first introduced back in the
late 1800s by Grover Cleveland and the
Sunshine Band. Before we get too far off
topic, which is somewhat likely to happen,
the title for this chapter (“Book of Love”) is
from the band called (in fact) Book of Love.
I'm willing to set aside the fact that they
really should be called something like The
Book of Love, or perhaps James Buchanan
and the Topic of Love, but I find it really
hard to separate their name (and their song
of the same name—a bouncy synth-pop
song recorded back in 1986 when people
wore skinny ties and sport coats with the
sleeves rolled up) from the original (and
actually kind of good) song, “Who Wrote
the Book of Love,” which was recorded by
The Monotones. What is even more distress-
ing is that I just made two references to past
U.S. presidents that I doubt most American
high school students would even pick up on,
so those presidential references will prob-
ably be lost on most of the Norwegians and
Thai folks that read the translations of this
book. It won't be the first time I've actually
heard from readers around the world that
read the English-language version of the
book first, and then the foreign translation,
and who have told me my chapter intros
don't make sense in translation. I always
write back and remind them that they don't
really make sense in English either, to which
they usually reply, “Den hund er på kjøk-
kenet drive en båt gjort av bønner.” See?
When you read something like that, that's
what makes it all worthwhile.
