In-Depth Information
and explanatory tools for cognitive neuroscience. As recent attempts to create
such models demonstrate (e.g. Honey et al ., 2007; Izhikevich and Edelman,
2008), they appear well within reach of current computational and modeling
techniques. A complete map of the brain's structural connections (the brain's
connectome) could serve as the coupling matrix that informs a detailed “forward
model” of the human brain. Such a model would allow predictions about
endogenous brain dynamics, about the responsiveness of the brain system to
various exogenous stimuli, and about its changed dynamics in conditions of
damage or disease.
