REASONS TO CELEBRATE
You will have your own local holidays and community celebrations to look forward to. Just in case you
need more excuses to get together in the garden, the following is a list of food, sustainability, and
family-related events from March into December (gardening months for most areas). Maybe one of
these events will resonate with your community and you can build an activity around it. If nothing else,
you can share these through your communication channels as a fun FYI or learning opportunity.

National Celery Month
National Nutrition Month—Good time to talk about and launch a nutrition garden
March 15: Ag Day—A day to celebrate our bountiful food supply
March 16: National Artichoke Hearts Day
March 22: World Water Day—A day to promote awareness about the importance of freshwater
and sustainable resources
March 23: Earth Hour (8:30-9:30 p.m.)—Earth Hour encourages people to unite and take part
in an event that will inspire them to reduce their environmental impact. An example of this is
turning off the lights for the hour in hopes of inspiring others to be more environmentally con-
scious.
