Before You Install Hadoop
Hadoop is a large distributed product, and understanding how it all ties
together is fundamental to successfully installing, configuring, and
implementing a cluster. Each distribution from the various vendors has
a slightly different look and feel to it, so it is essential to spend a few
minutes getting to know what makes a particular flavor of Hadoop tick
before diving head first into it.
For HDP, Hortonworks has a short introductory “Getting Started
Guide” available online and in a PDF for download. You can find the
guide at http://docs.hortonworks.com/HDPDocuments/HDP1/

You can find the installation documentation for HDP from
Hortonworks at http://docs.hortonworks.com/HDPDocuments/HDP1/

On-premise Installation: Single-node Installation
After you have built your base Windows server for installation of HDP, there
are several prerequisites for HDP to install, as follows:
1. Install Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (64-bit).
2. Install Microsoft .NET framework 4.0.
3. Install Java Development Kit (JDK) 6u31.
4. Install Python 2.7.
WARNING
To be clear, these prerequisites are mandatory. Skipping any of these
steps will likely result in a failed installation.
