Reporting Services
Although the preceding tools excel at providing self-service data
visualization and exploration, most organizations still need a traditional
reporting solution that consists of highly formatted distributed reports.
These reports are usually highly structured to meet a specific set of
requirements, formatted for printing, and are pushed out to users on a
periodic basis.
SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) is an excellent tool for creating and
managing your structured reporting requirements. It provides a rich
development environment, supports conditional formatting, and enables
parameter-driven reports and linking of reports for drilling across different
views of the data. Reports can include tables, matrices, various graphs, and
images. Figure 11.6 shows a typical tabular report created using the report
designer.
