on a dry surface unless safety precautions are taken to ensure
adequate ventilation or provide personal protective equipment.
Chlorination Steps and Precautions
1. Retain the chlorinated water in the facility for at least 6 hr
when continuous feed is used from the gas-chlorinator or
chemical feed pump. If a high chlorine concentration is
added by pouring sodium hypochlorite or by placing cal-
cium hypochlorite granules or tablets and filling the stor-
age facility, the water should be retained for at least
24 hr. If a two-step process is used, the tablets or gran-
ules are allowed to dissolve in a small amount of water (a
few feet) before the facility is filled to capacity. The chem-
ical may take several hours to dissolve.
