• iPhoto ( HTTP://WWW.APPLE.COM/ILIFE/IPHOTO/ ): Apple's photo cataloging, sharing, and
basic editing app is loved and hated in equal amounts by Mac users but
is a requirement on OS X if you want to access your Photo Stream—photos
taken on your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad and stored within iCloud.
Alternatively, you could download Apple's high-end photo-editing applica-
tion Aperture, which also provides access to Photo Stream. Either can be
purchased via the Mac App Store.
• Adium ( HTTP://ADIUM.IM/ ) : This is an instant messaging client that supports
just about every chat protocol in existence and integrates fully with OS
X's Contacts app.
• Safari extensions ( HTTPS://EXTENSIONS.APPLE.COM ): Safari's functionality can be

also click the application menu and then Extensions, and you can remove
or adjust extensions by opening Safari's Preferences dialog box and then
clicking the Extensions tab.

page 413 ) . 39 Additionally, you'll usually find Mac versions of major open source
projects such as LibreOffice and Gimp. 40 Note that some open source software
uses X11, which is installed upon demand on OS X Mountain Lion, although
can be manually downloaded if needed from HTTP://XQUARTZ.MACOSFORGE.ORG (you
should download and install the latest XQuartz package).
Adobe Flash Player isn't a default installation on new Macs, so it must be
installed manually. 41 This is for a reason: Apple claims the Flash plug-in
