In-Depth Information
You'll now have to switch to Dashboard either by using its hotkey, if your
Mac's keyboard has one, or by hitting F12 ( FN +F12 on portable Macs and Macs
with aluminum keyboards).
A nice side effect of making this switch is that the “ripple” special effect that
formerly appeared when a new widget added to the Dashboard is also restored.
Tip 379
Tweak iTunes Visualizations
If you're a fan of the iTunes visualizations that appear when music is playing
(View→Show Visualizer), you might be interested to know that often there are
configuration options that can be tweaked. To see them, just hit the question
mark key while the visualization is playing. This will show a menu indicating
other keystrokes that will change the nature of the animations. If you use
the classic visualization mode (View→Visualizer→iTunes Classic Visualizer),
hitting the question mark key for a second time will bring up a second help
menu.
Tip 380
Add Finder to Launchpad
If you're a fan of Launchpad, you might notice a strange omission—you can't
open a Finder window from within Launchpad. There's no Finder icon.
The solution is simple. Open a Finder window using the Dock icon, hit
SHIFT + COMMAND + G , and type /SYSTEM/LIBRARY/CORESERVICES . Then look for a file called
FINDER (it'll have the same icon as the Dock's Finder icon), and drag and drop
it on top of the Launchpad icon in the Dock.
Activate Launchpad, and, hey, presto—you now have a Finder icon! It will
probably be at the bottom of the first page of app listings or perhaps on the
last page of the Launchpad app listing. You can move it to the first page by
clicking and dragging it to the left edge of the screen.
