a Terminal window (open Finder, select the Applications list, and then in the
list of applications double-click Terminal within the UTILITIES folder), and type
EMACS ; then hold down ESC , and hit X . Then type TETRIS . Use the Left/Right cursor
keys to move the blocks and the Up cursor key to rotate them. Hit Q to quit
the game and then CONTROL + X followed by CONTROL + C to quit Emacs.
Other games to try—specify them instead of TETRIS , as described earlier—include
PONG , SOLITAIRE , SNAKE , GOMOKU , and DUNNET (a text adventure game). To see the full
game list at the command prompt, type LS/USR/SHARE/EMACS/22.1/LISP/PLAY —the name
to type in Emacs is the filename for each game but without the file extensions.

Run X11 (XQuartz) Apps Full-Screen
If you regularly use any apps that require X11 (now known within OS X as
XQuartz), 32 such as the Inkscape vector graphics editor, 33 then you might be
used to the confusion of each XQuartz app utilizing its own menu bar. A way
to make XQuartz apps easier to work with is to integrate XQuartz with Mission
Control's spaces and to run XQuartz full-screen. Here are the steps:
1.
Create a space specially for XQuartz. This can be done by starting Mission
Control using either the keyboard hotkey or CONTROL +Up and then holding
OPTION and pressing the plus button in the top-right corner of the screen.
2.
Switch to the new space, and start XQuartz by hitting COMMAND + SPACE and
typing XQUARTZ . Hit RETURN to start the program.
3.
Right-click the XQuartz icon in the Dock, and click Options→This Desktop.
4.
Click XQuartz's application menu, and then select Preferences. Select the
Output tab in the dialog box that appears, and check the boxes Full-
Screen Mode and Allow Menu Bar Access in Full-Screen Mode.
5.
Close the Preferences dialog, and then quit XQuartz (right-click its Dock
icon and select Quit).
32. X11 is not part of the default Mountain Lion (and newer) installations of OS X; it is
now known as XQuartz and can be downloaded from HTTP://XQUARTZ.MACOSFORGE.ORG .
