In-Depth Information
2. Create a folder in a convenient location to contain the files you're about
to restore.
3. Attach the old backup disk, and select not to use it for backup in any
dialog box that pops up.
4. Hold down OPTION before clicking the Time Machine icon at the top right
of the screen. Then select Browse Other Backup Disks on the menu that
appears and, in the dialog box you see next, select the old backup disk
and click Use Selected Disk.
5. You'll now see the standard Time Machine display and should be able to
step back in time to browse the backups. Note that backups are colored
purple in the timeline against the right of the screen. If you see any gray
entries, they're likely local snapshots of your own computer made
recently, so you can ignore them.
6. Once you've found a file or folder you want to restore, right-click it and
select Restore To. Then, when you've returned the desktop, select a desti-
nation to save it to. Repeat this process until you've recovered all the files
you want. Remember that you can hold SHIFT and COMMAND in the usual
way to select multiple files and folders to restore.
7. Once you're done, eject the old backup disk, and reattach your existing
Time Machine disk, if you have one.

Explore Within a Website Using Safari
Ever visited a new website via a link and wanted to explore the site to see
what else it has to offer? A quick way of navigating to the site's home page in
Safari is to right-click the page title in the menu bar. This will show the
website address truncated in various ways, all the way back to the base URL.
Just click the version of the shortened URL that you're interested in. For an
example, see Figure 54, Quickly navigating to a site's home page in Safari , on
page 380 .
