Then open a Terminal window (open Finder, select the Applications list, and
then in the list of applications double-click Terminal within the UTILITIES folder),
and type the following:
DEFAULTS WRITE COM.APPLE.DOCK USE-OLD-GRID-ANIMATION -BOOL TRUE;KILLALL DOCK
The changes take effect immediately, so try clicking the stack again to see
the change. You should find that the pop-out window pops up into view more
elegantly and doesn't fade into view, as it did previously.
If you decide to revert to the previous pop-out effect, open a Terminal window,
and type the following:
DEFAULTS DELETE COM.APPLE.DOCK USE-OLD-GRID-ANIMATION;KILLALL DOCK

This should work in any app that hasn't defined the SHIFT + COMMAND + L keyboard
shortcut for another function.

Use a Secret Gesture to Switch Spaces
There's a secret gesture you can use with Mac multitouch trackpads that lets
you double-tap with four fingers to switch back to the most recently used
desktop space (tap, not click!). For example, should you switch to the Dash-
board space from the main desktop, double-tapping in this way will switch
back to the desktop. Note that this gesture involves merely tapping the
trackpad and not clicking. This remains true even if you have Tap to Click
turned off in System Preferences.
To activate the gesture, you'll need to use a hidden setting. Open a Terminal
