In-Depth Information
To reorder them at any time, just hold down COMMAND and click and drag
them. Ensure the other menulets slide out of the way to make space before
releasing the mouse button, and be careful not to drag the icon off the menu
bar before releasing the mouse button because that will remove the menulet.
Note that it's impossible to move the Spotlight and Notification Center icons,
which always remain in the top-right corner of the screen, and several icons
that belong to third-party apps might also be immutable.
You should be able to restore any missing icon by opening Finder, hitting
SHIFT + COMMAND + G , typing /SYSTEM/LIBRARY/CORESERVICES/MENU EXTRAS , and then double-
clicking the .MENU file corresponding to the missing menulet.

Wake Troublesome Macs

up—perhaps it refuses to let you type your password or perhaps the screen
backlighting illuminates but the screen itself remains black—then simply
close the lid for a minute or so and reopen it. Often things will work properly
the second time around.
If after this the computer still refuses to wake, you'll need to forcibly reboot
your computer, which you can do by holding down the power button for five
seconds. Once the computer has powered down, press the button again nor-
mally to boot.
If the wake-from-sleep problems continue, try resetting the PRAM—see Tip
184, Reset Hardware Settings , on page 209 .
