Tip 248
Turn Off Mail Sounds
Mail is a surprisingly noisy program—you'll hear a noise when mail is sent
(a swoosh) and also a noise when new mail arrives.
Turning off sound effects is very easy. Open Mail's Preferences dialog box
(application menu→Preferences), and then ensure the General tab is selected.
In the New Messages Sound drop-down list, select None. Then remove the
check alongside Play Sounds For Other Mail Actions. Finally, close the Mail
Preferences dialog box.
