In-Depth Information
address book entry of each individual you'd like to be included in the list.
This might be a company name, or even something like a telephone area code,
if you want to create a smart group for people who live in a city or district.
By clicking the first drop-down in the smart group creation dialog box,
headed Card by default, you can select specific address book fields that you
want the smart group to filter by, such as Email or even Birthday. By clicking
the Contains drop-down, you can select Does Not Contain to create a smart
group that doesn't include the text you specify, which is useful if your address
book contains mostly people within your company and you want to create a
group showing people employed by others.
Note that, in the future, you can hold down OPTION while clicking or viewing
an entry within the overall list of Contacts to see any groups they're in. When
you click, the group(s) will briefly flash blue.
Tip 176
Calm a Bouncing Dock Icon
Some apps bounce their Dock icons when they want to tell you something,
such as when a task has completed. Some apps bounce their icons for a short
while, while others will keep bouncing the icon until you do something about
it. This can be annoying if you're busy doing something else.
Temporarily Calming a Dock Icon
While clicking the Dock icon to activate the app is one solution, another is
simply to move your mouse cursor over the icon. It will instantly stop
bouncing, and you can then return to the task at hand.
Deactivating Dock Bouncing
If you finding it irritating, you can turn off the Dock icon bouncing entirely,
although bear in mind this means you won't know when an app requires your
attention.
The Dock bounces when one of two events occur: when an app launches and
if an app requires attention. The former can be turned off by opening System
Preferences (Apple→System Preferences) and then clicking the Dock icon,
before removing the check from the Animate Opening Applications box.
