To make it happen, open a Terminal window (open Finder, select the Applica-
tions list, and then in the list of applications double-click Terminal within
the UTILITIES folder), and type the following:
DEFAULTS WRITE COM.APPLE.DOCK MOUSE-OVER-HILITE-STACK -BOOL TRUE;KILLALL DOCK
The Dock will disappear for a split second, but don't worry; that's normal.
Test your new setting by clicking one of the stacks.
Deactivating Highlighting
To turn off the effect at any time, open a Terminal window once more, and
type the following:
DEFAULTS DELETE COM.APPLE.DOCK MOUSE-OVER-HILITE-STACK;KILLALL DOCK
Temporary Highlighting
There's another way of enacting highlighting on a temporary basis if you don't
want to make the system configuration changes outlined earlier. Simply click
