In-Depth Information
To restore the controller bar/title bar later, again open a Terminal window,
and type the following:
DEFAULTS DELETE COM.APPLE.QUICKTIMEPLAYERX MGUIVISIBILITYNEVERAUTOSHOW
Stop the Controls from Hiding So Quickly
As mentioned previously, the controller bar appears when the mouse cursor
is in the QuickTime Player window but disappears instantly when it leaves.
The following tweak will cause the controller bar to stick around a few seconds
longer when the mouse cursor leaves the QuickTime window:
DEFAULTS WRITE COM.APPLE.QUICKTIMEPLAYERX MGUIVISIBILITYNEVERAUTOHIDE -BOOL
TRUE
The following will disable this feature:
DEFAULTS DELETE COM.APPLE.QUICKTIMEPLAYERX MGUIVISIBILITYNEVERAUTOHIDE
Automatically Show Subtitles/Closed Captioning
If the movies you play in QuickTime Player have subtitle/closed captioning
(CC) files, the following tweak will cause movies to automatically show their
subtitles, negating the need to select the option from the View→Subtitles
menu:
DEFAULTS WRITE COM.APPLE.QUICKTIMEPLAYERX MGENABLECCANDSUBTITLESONOPEN -BOOL
TRUE
Note that subtitle/CC files need to be placed in the same directory as the
movie file and also have the same filename; for example, if the movie is called
JOURNEYTOTHEMOON.MPG , then the subtitle/CC file should be renamed to JOURNEYTOTHE-
MOON.SRT (assuming it's an .SRT file).
The following will deactivate automatic displaying of subtitles:
DEFAULTS DELETE COM.APPLE.QUICKTIMEPLAYERX MGENABLECCANDSUBTITLESONOPEN
