For every project, you must eventually create some form of output. In
this chapter you will learn how to print on an ink-jet printer in a way that
maintains the colors you see onscreen as faithfully as possible on the printed
page. In addition, you will learn how to create optimized web graphics if the
screen is the ultimate destination for your output.

There is a lot more to printing in Photoshop that pressing Cmd+P as you
might in a word processing program. Photoshop itself, your printer manu-
facturer's driver software, and the operating system all play a part in the
color management workflow. In the following steps you will see how to print
using Photoshop for color management.

1. Open Dock.psd from the topic's Downloads page at www.sybex.com/
go/photoshopessentials . Soft-proof this image for your speciic
printer and paper combination according to the instructions in
Chapter 15, “Working with Color.” In this example I am using
an Epson Stylus Photo 1280 printer with premium glossy photo
paper.

2. Choose File a Print. In the Photoshop Print Settings dialog box,
the first thing you need to do is select your printer driver from
the Printer drop-down (see Figure 16.1). In this case I will select
Epson Stylus Photo 1280. Select the Landscape layout button.
