You can access Camera Raw preferences from Bridge or from the toolbar
in ACR. From there you decide whether you want to save image settings in
separate sidecar files ( .xmp ) that you can see in the file system or as part
of the (invisible) Camera Raw database.
ACR can also be used to develop JPEG and TIFF images. You can choose
whether to open such files in ACR always, only if they already have image
settings, or never.

3. Press O and U to toggle on the highlight and shadow clipping warn-
ings, respectively. Blown out highlights are shown in red, and under-
exposed areas that have gone completely black are shown in blue.
Drag the Exposure slider to +2.00, representing opening up the lens
aperture two full stops (simulating four times as much light on the
sensor). The histogram is now spread out across the tonal range, but
we are getting a fair amount of highlight clipping and a tiny bit of
shadow clipping (see Figure 12.5).
