Making development decisions in ACR
Every digital camera captures raw sensor data. This raw data is recorded with-
out any processing only in “prosumer,” or professional-level, cameras. In lower-
end cameras, the raw data is typically processed into JPEG format with the
in-camera circuitry, and much of the data is discarded in exchange for smaller
file size. Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) was designed to handle the raw data, which
you can think of as the digital equivalent of film negatives. ACR exists in a work-
flow between Bridge (or the Mini Bridge) and Photoshop. ACR is where you will
make almost all of your photographic development decisions.
