ChAPteR 12
developing Photos
Adobe replaces the traditional lightbox and darkroom with a trio of pro-
grams: Bridge, Adobe Camera Raw (ACR), and Photoshop. You'll use Bridge
as a digital lightbox to review and tag your shots, ACR to develop individual
photos, and Photoshop to do more advanced work involving layers, filters,
and more.

Using Adobe bridge
Adobe Bridge is a separate program that comes free with Photoshop and
many other Adobe products. As its name suggests, Bridge serves as a media
browser that links different Adobe programs. More than just a way to see
multiple thumbnails of your photos, Bridge allows you to tag your shots with
metadata. As you shoot more and more photos, finding particular photos
becomes a significant issue. With metadata, you add searchable keywords to
photos. In the following steps you will use Bridge to visualize the samples
provided with this chapter, tag a photo with keywords, and explore the Mini
Bridge feature within Photoshop.
1. Download the sample iles for Chapter 12 from the topic's
Downloads page ( www.sybex.com/go/photoshopessentials ) and
place them in a memorable location on your hard drive.
2. Launch Photoshop. Select File a Browse In Bridge to launch the
program.
3. In Bridge, locate the Folders panel and navigate to the folder
where you saved the sample files in step 1. The Folders panel is
organized in a tree structure that you can expand, much like the
Mac Finder and Windows Explorer.
