Creating Fill and Adjustment Layers
Just as smart filters allow you to reedit your filters at a later date, fill and
adjustment layers offer similar parametric editability. For this reason it is
almost always preferable to create fill and adjustment layers rather than
directly filling or applying single adjustments. In the following steps you will
create both fill and adjustment layers and control their scope with clipping
groups.

Objective
1. Open Texture.psd if it is not already open.

2. Choose Layer a New Fill Layer a Solid Color. Type Green as the
name in the New Layer dialog box and click OK. Select a deep forest-
green color in the picker and click OK. Drag the Green layer below
the Base layer in the Layers panel.
Texture.psd
is also available
on the topic's
downloads page.
3. You cannot see the green hue because the pixels on the Base layer
obscure the fill layer underneath. Double-click just to the right of the
word Base in the Layers panel to open the Layer Style dialog box's
Blending Options page. Drag the slider labeled This Layer to the left
until the value reads 190 (see Figure 11.14). Click OK.
