Pixels tool Mode
In Pixels tool mode, you use drawing tools to directly generate pixels without
creating a work path. This has immediate results but limited editability. In the
following steps you will draw a line in Pixels tool mode and complete the logo
design with the Paint Bucket tool.
O
the pen tools do not
have a Fill pixels
mode.
1. If the evolving logo design isn't still open, go to the topic's Downloads
page at www.sybex.com/go/photoshopessentials , br owse to
Chapter 5, get the file Logo4.psd , and open it in Photoshop.
2. Click the red swatch in the Swatches panel to set the foreground
color. Select the Wave layer if it is not already selected.
3. Select the Line tool. Select Pixels tool mode, also on the options bar.
Type 3 px in the Weight text box on the options bar.
4. Hold Shift and drag a line between the points where the triangles and
compasses intersect. Figure 5.22 shows the intended result. Don't worry
if your line passes beyond the blue triangles as it does in the example.
FIGURe 5.22 Drawing a line in Pixels tool mode might overshoot the
blue triangles, as shown in the black circles.
5. The “line” you just drew doesn't have the qualities of a vector object.
The only way you can alter it is to use raster techniques. Press E to
select the Eraser tool. Select Block from the Mode drop-down on the
options bar. Roll your mouse wheel forward to zoom in and carefully
erase any portions of the red line that extend outside the vertical
edges of the blue triangles. Double-click the Zoom tool to show the
actual pixels at 100% magnification.
