Painting With a tablet
The mouse is a terrible instrument for painting. It's like painting with a bar of
soap. If you want to get serious about painting in Photoshop, you need a pres-
sure- and tilt-sensitive tablet (see Figure 4.21). Much of the nuance and subtlety
of painting can be captured only with pressure and tilt sensitivity—these two
dimensions are not captured with a mouse. Using the stylus input device on a
tablet is very much like holding a paintbrush or pen in your hands.

In addition, tablets use absolute positioning, which means, for example, that
when you hold the stylus in the lower-right corner of the tablet, the cursor will
always be in the lower-right corner of the screen. Mice use relative positioning,
