4. Notice that Spacing is selected and set to 25% in this preset.
Brushstrokes are really a series of copies of the brush shape in the
direction of the stroke. Increasing Spacing above a few percent allows
you to perceive the individual copies. Make a horizontal brushstroke
across the top of the canvas and you'll see the individual blades of grass.

two new brush fea-

and airbrush tip.
erodible brush set-
tings allows rough

realistic strokes.
airbrush tips are
best used with a pen
tablet where applied
pressure and angle
affects the brush
stroke.
5. Click Scattering to toggle on this feature and open its page as the
parameters on the right side of the Brush panel change. Drag the
Scatter slider to 66% and make another horizontal brushstroke in
the middle of the canvas. The grass is scattered vertically in a ran-
dom fashion.
6. Click Color Dynamics to toggle on this feature and open its page in
the Brush panel. Drag Hue Jitter to 15%. Jitter refers to randomiza-
tion, so hue jitter will make the color vary along the brushstroke.
Make another horizontal brushstroke along the bottom of the can-
vas. Figure 4.20 shows the results of these experiments.
