FIGURE 39.2
The Backup Database dialog box presents options for your backup file.
addition, some Analysis Services data is already stored in a compressed format,
which means that you might not gain a lot of storage room by selecting this option.
.
Select the Encrypt Backup File check box to encrypt your file. If you select this
option, you'll have to type a password in the Password text box and type it again in
the Confirm Password text box. Record this password in some safe place; you'll need
it if you ever want to restore your database from this backup file.
The last note here is about providing a password in the backup command. The pass-
word you provide will be used by Analysis Services to encrypt the backup file.
Although Analysis Server doesn't enforce any password policies that relate to pass-
word length, numbers, and special characters used in the password, we recommend
that you use general security precautions when selecting you password.
.
Select the Backup Remote Partition(s) check box if your database has remote parti-
tions and you want to back them up in this operation. If you select this operation,
the locations of your remote partition backup files appear in the box below Remote
Partition Backup Location.
When you're ready to submit your choices to the server, click OK. If you then look in the
location where you saved your backup file, you will find your file with an .abf extension.
As an alternative to using the Backup Database dialog box, you can use a SQL Server
Integration Services task to submit the command.
