Using Templates to Create Relational Schemas
You have now created a database schema by creating a cube first. However, it can be
tedious to create an entire cube. Analysis Services provides a way for you to create new
cubes, dimensions, and the relational schema supporting them based on templates
provided by Analysis Services. (You can also create your own templates.) When you are
creating several cubes and data warehouses that are similar in structure, the templates
come in handy.
The following steps take you through the processes of using a template, and of building
your own:
1. First, launch the Cube Wizard.
2. On the second page of the wizard (shown in Figure 19.3 earlier), choose the Build
Cube Without a Data Source option.
To use an existing template to build your cube, click the Use a Cube Template
check box and choose the template you want. The default templates provided by
Analysis Services are Adventure Works Enterprise Edition and Adventure Works
Standard Edition.
The following steps take you through the process of creating your own template.
3. Navigate to the Program files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\Templates\olap
