DAY 20
Puebla and Popotillo
Puebla is the Talavera jewel of Mexico. If one could slice Puebla's colonial center into a
baker's dozen, the result would be twelve additional world-class, eye-catching architectur-
al beauties: Brick and Talavera, facades of Alfenique, rich Baroque designs, Moorish and
Andalusian. Even the neglected emanate a beauty that stops the traveler and demands re-
flection.
Changing sunlight sets off and highlights marvelous intricate designs reflecting from the
Talavera tiles and creates contrasts with the matte brickwork. Moving shadows fashioned
by drifting clouds break the sunlight into patterns, making scenes fresh, like twirling a kal-
eidoscope prism.
