Task roles
panel. This panel contains slots to identify the dependent and
independent variables in the analysis. To specify which variables are to
be used for each role, we highlight and drag variables from the
Va r i -
ables to assign
panel to the
Task roles
panel. For example, highlight and
drag the variable named
beckdep
in the
Variables to assign
panel to the
icon for the
Dependent variables
. Then drag the variable
educ
to the
icon for
Independent variable
. If you prefer, you can avoid the dragging
process by highlighting the variable in the
Variables to assign
panel and
clicking the arrow button pointing to the
Task roles
panel to the right
of the panel. From the little menu appearing when you click the arrow
button, you can select (by clicking the choice) the particular task role
to be assigned the variable. When you finish, the window will look like

Very often, when you select another choice in the navigation panel, you
will be presented with a dialog window in which you will mark checkboxes
