in the parentheses after
TABLES
. Since the only other variable there is
reside
, SPSS will compare females and males for each level of
reside
.The
text
adj (bonferroni)
instructs SPSS to perform these comparisons of the
gender
means using a Bonferroni adjustment such that the alpha level
for the comparisons remains at .05 and thus avoids alpha inflation. In the
output, a
Pairwise Comparisons
table will be presented for this set of
comparisons.
Now place your cursor at the end of the second interaction line and,
after typing a space, type the following all in lower case:
compare (reside) adj (bonferroni).
This command structure tells SPSS to
compare
the various levels of
reside
(large city, small town, rural community) at each level of
gender
.
Thus,wewillbecomparingthethreeresidencesizesforthefemalerespon-
dents and again for the male respondents. Note that each of these com-
parisons involves three groups but that presents no problem for SPSS -
all of the comparisons will be performed. And because we have added the
adj (bonferroni)
syntax, these comparisons will be made at a Bonferroni
adjusted alpha level of .05.
To perform these post-ANOVA analyses, from the main menu select
Run
➜
All
. SPSS will highlight the entire set of syntax and run the analysis.
It will then deposit the output in an
Output
window.
