Code entry area (1)
This is where you'll type in the code for your sketch.
The console (2)
This is where you'll see status messages when uploading your code to
the board.
Verify button (3)
Click this button to verify that your code has no errors. If your code does
have errors, they will be displayed in the console.
Upload button (4)
Click this button to verify the code and upload it to the board if there are
no errors.
New button (5)
This creates a new sketch in the current window.
Open button (6)
This will allow you to open a saved sketch from your sketchbook folder ,
the location on your computer where the Arduino IDE saves your sketch-
es.
Save button (7)
This will allow you to save the sketch in the current window. You'll be
prompted to enter a file name if you haven't already saved the file.
Serial monitor (8)
This button opens the serial monitor , which lets you send and receive
information between your board and your computer. We'll cover this
further in Chapter 3 .
You'll get a chance to explore more features of the IDE as you progress
through this topic.
Connecting the Board
The next step is to power on the Galileo and connect it to your computer
( Figure 2-5 ) so that you can upload your code to the board.
