In-Depth Information
In case you're unfamiliar with shapefiles, it's a file format that describes geo-
spatial data, such as polygons, lines, and points, and they're easy to find online.
For example, the United States Census Bureau provides shapefiles for roads,
bodies of water, and blocks. See more at http://mapbox.com/tilemill/.
indiemapper
Figure 7-4 shows indiemapper, which is a free service provided by cartography
group Axis Maps. Like TileMill, it enables you to create custom maps and map
your own data, but it runs in the browser rather than as a desktop client. It's
straightforward to use, and there are plenty of examples to help you begin.
