Hólmanes Peninsula HIKING
The southern shore of the Hólmanes Peninsula, below the peak Hólmatindur , is a nature
reserve. Hiking in the area offers superb maritime views (look out for pods of dolphins).
The Hólmaborgir hike, south of the main road, is a popular loop that takes but an hour or
two.
There are plenty of longer hiking routes up the nearby mountains. Multiday hikes
around the peninsulas east of Eskifjörður abound; at the time of research, it was tough to
obtain a hiking map locally, so ask around.
Gönguvikan (Hiking Week) is a big event on the district's annual calendar, falling the
week after the summer solstice.
Oddsskarð SKIING
Given the right conditions, from mid-November to April skiing is possible on slopes near

kept up to date).
