The well-informed centre has good displays on the local geology, and can book accom-
modation, tours and transport. Pick up a copy of the hugely useful Visit Mývatn brochure
and Mývatn Lake map.
Eastern Mývatn
If you're short on time, make this area your first stop. The sights along Mývatn's eastern

Grjótagjá CAVE
Game of Thrones fans may recognise it as the place where John Snow is, ahem, de-
flowered by Ygritte. Grjótagjá is a gaping fissure with a 45°C-water-filled cave. It's on
