Árskógsströnd
The rich agricultural region known as Árskógsströnd runs north along the western shore of
Eyjafjörður, from where there are dramatic views across the water to the mountains oppos-
ite. It's the main jumping-off point for those who want to explore little Hrísey offshore.

Bruggsmiðjan - Kaldi BREWERY

Árskógsströnd is the home of Bruggsmiðjan microbrewery, producing excellent, in-de-
mand Kaldi brews using Czech techniques. The brewery is open to drop-in visitors (if the
timing is good), but you're better off calling to arrange a tour (this is essential for groups).
You could also consider joining a food-focused tour from Akureyri-based Saga Travel,
which visits this and other local producers.
Níels Jónsson WHALE WATCHING

From Árskógsströnd, you can take short detour to the hamlet of Hauganes to climb aboard
the former fishing boat Níels Jónsson for an adventure that includes fishing and whale
watching (this is Iceland's oldest whale-watch operator). Hauganes is 2km off Rte 82,
about 11km south of Dalvík (30km north of Akureyri).
