REYKJAVÍK IN…
ONE DAY
Start with a walk around the Old Reykjavík quarter near Tjörnin then peruse the city's
best museums, such as the impressive National Museum , Reykjavík Art Museum or Reyk-
javík 871±2 .
In the afternoon, wander up arty Skólavörðustígur to the immense Hallgrímskirkja .
For a perfect view, take an elevator up the tower, then circle down to stroll Laugavegur ,
the main shopping drag.
Sit for people-watching and drinks at Bravó or Tiú Droppar then head to dinner. Many
of the more lively restaurants - including Vegamót and Kex - turn into party hangouts at
night. On weekends, join Reykjavík's notorious pub crawl . Start at perennial favourite Kaf-
fibarinn or beer-lovers' Kaldi , then tag along with locals to the latest drinking holes.
TWO DAYS
After a late night out, enjoy brunch at Bergsson Mathús , Grái Kötturinn or Laundromat
Café . Then head down to the Old Harbour for a wander, museums or a whale-watching
tour .
For hot springs, gardens, beautiful Cafe Flóra and cool art, head to Laugardalur in the
afternoon.
Book ahead if you'd like a swanky evening at one of Reykjavík's top Icelandic restaur-
ants, such as Dill or Þrír Frakkar , then hit Loftið , one of the new breed of cocktail bars. Al-
ternatively, catch a show at Harpa or a movie at Bíó Paradís .
