People Recognition technology (Face Tagging)
The ability to search through a group of photos and automatically select those that contain
faces was first introduced in Elements 4.0. Using this feature makes it much easier to locate
and tag photos of family and friends in the batches of pictures that you import. From version
8 this feature has been updated and renamed to People Recognition and is now part of the
technology powering the new People view mode. Start by selecting a group of photos from
inside the Organizer workspace. Next, click the Add People button in the Actions Bar at the
bottom of the screen. A new dialog will be displayed showing the photos where Elements
has located a person. The utility displays a thumbnail of just the face in the image. If a tag
has already been associated with the person then Elements will show this entry beneath the
thumbnail, if not, then a small text box featuring a 'Who is this?' entry will be displayed. To
add a tag just click on the text box and add the name of the individual. This will automati-
cally create a new keyword tag and add the tag to the photo.
When the People Recogni-
tion feature locates a face
that hasn't been assigned
a tag it displays a 'Who is
this?' text box (1). You can
add the name of the per-
son by t yping direc tly into
the text box (2). This in
turn will add a new Peo-
ples Tag to the feature's
panel (3).
