In-Depth Information
The same photo can be a part of several different albums. When adding your photos to an
album you are not duplicating these photos but rather adding the pictures to a visual list of the
group's contents. In this way, only one copy of the original photo is stored on the computer but
it can be viewed and used in many ways. To display all photos in your library after showing
the contents of an album, select the Grid button at the top left of the workspace.
Saved Searches (previously Smart Albums)
Elements contains an extensive search
feature which you can use to quickly
locate specific photos or groups of
photos. The criteria you use for a
particular search can be saved so you
can easily use it again later. Saved
Searches replace Smart Albums found
in previous versions of Elements.
Create a Saved Search by performing a
search using any of the options listed
under the Find menu. Then select the
option to 'Save this Search Criteria as
a Saved Search', at the bottom of any
of the Find dialogs. After the search is
performed the results are automatically
displayed in the browser area of the
Organizer. Alternatively, you can
create Saved Searches directly from the
Saved Searches dialog using the button
provided.
Saved Searches display the results of a specific search. Here
a new Saved Search is created to show all Raw files.
Access the Saved Search
dialog by selecting its en-
try from the drop-down
search menu at the top-
right of the workspace.
The Saved Searches dialog lists previously saved searches, al-
lows you to selec t and open them as well as create new ones.
To perform the search again simple
choose the Saved Searches option from
the Search drop down menu, select the entry from those listed and click the Open button.
Select a saved search entry performs the search process across all your files again (based on
the criteria you initially used), and any new candidate photos added to your catalog are also
searched providing you with the most up to date results.
Stacks and Auto Stacks
The idea of grouping together like photos in a single stack is also possible in the Organizer.
With the ever-growing number of photos in photographer's libraries, using a stack system
to group together similar images, or pictures on a single topic, and then displaying the set
layered under a single thumbnail, is a great space saver. Stacking options are located in the
Stack section of the right-click menu in the Organizer.
