Making your own web gallery
With the basics of photo optimizing for the Net under our belt let's look at the features that
Elements offer photographers wanting to create their own web gallery.
Never before in the history of the world has it been
possible to exhibit your work so easily to so many
people for such little cost. The web is providing
artists, photographers and business people with
a wonderful opportunity to be seen, but many
consider making their own website a prospect too
daunting to contemplate. For the last few ver-
sions of Elements, Adobe has included a feature
that takes several images and transforms them
into a fully functioning website in a matter of a
few minutes. More recently this feature has been
overhauled so that now in Windows and, for the
first time, in Mac as well, it links directly with your
Photoshopshowcase.com account and the photos
that are stored there.
The Online Album feature (previously called the
Online Galleries or Web Photo Galleries) can be
found under the Share pane in the Organizer
workspaces. Clicking the Online Album button
changes the display in the panel on the right of the
workspace.
The Online Album feature is one of the
photo projects that can be found in the
Share pane of the Organizer workspace
in both the Mac and Windows version of
Photoshop Elements.
There are two options displayed at the top of the
panel which determine the next steps in the pro-
cess. As the gallery creation process is based on
Elements' albums, you have the choice of using an existing album or creating a
new one. You will also need to choose how the album is to be shared - online, CD/DVD
or hard disk. Selecting the online route makes use of the free hosting options provided at
Photoshopshowcase.com. So you will need to have already signed up for a free account.
The settings in the rest of the panel allow you to add to or take away images from the set
you have in the selected or newly created album, set the template and style of the website,
input the heading, adjust the colors used on the pages (depending on the template used) and
choose who has access to the gallery once it is on the Net. You can choose to display the gal-
lery and all the images publicly or only allow access to invited friends or colleagues.
