Deleting layers
There are four ways to delete a single layer from the layer stack in Photoshop Eements.
1. Select the layer in the Layers palette and then drag it to the dustbin icon (Delete Layer but-
ton) at the top of the palette.
2. Select the layer in the palette, click on the Dustbin icon and then select Yes in the confir-
mation dialog box. To avoid this dialog box hold down the Alt/Option key when clicking the
dustbin.
3. After selecting the layer to be discarded, choose Layer > Delete Layer.
4. Make sure that the layer to remove is selected in the palette then choose Delete Layer from
the pop-up menu displayed via the Layers Palette Settings button (top right of the palette).
Renaming a Layer
The name of a layer can be changed by double-clicking the title in the Layers Palette and
then entering a new name. Alternatively, after selecting the layer, the Rename Layer option
can be selected from the Layer, or right-click menu.
Locking Layers
There are two different locking options for layer content in
Photoshop Elements. The Lock All button (lock icon) at
the top of the Layers Palette will stop the content, position
or transparency in a layer from being changed. When this
option is applied to a layer a locked padlock icon is added to
the layer entry. Background layers have this option applied
automatically.
