# If the actual paper size is not listed in the preset menu, you can add a custom size by typing
in the page dimensions in the width (W) and height (H) text boxes which are also located on
the tool's options bar. The two arrows button between the dimension text boxes is used to
swap height and width values which allows for quick changes between portrait and land-
scape formats.

Automatic protection of skin tones
For most photographers it will be the people in their photos that they will want to protect
from scaling changes made with the Recompose tool. For this reason Adobe has also in-
cluded a button on the options bar that marks for protection any skin tones within a photo.
Clicking this button provides a fast way to paint over all skin colored areas in the photo. In
practise the results tend to include areas beyond just skin tones, but these can be quickly re-
moved with the Mark for Protection Eraser tool. Any areas missed can be added by painting
over them with the Mark for Protection Brush tool.
The Recompose tool workflow:
1 With an image open in the Editor workspace, select the Recompose tool
from the toolbar. As the feature is grouped with the Crop tool it maybe
necessary to click on the small arrow at the bottom right of the tool icon to
reveal the Recompose tool first before you can select it.
2 Use the Mark for Protection brush (green) to paint over areas of the photo
that you don't want to change during the transformation process.
3 Use the Mark for Deletion brush (red) to paint over areas of the photo that
you want removed from the picture during the transformation process.
4 Alternatively you can click the Highlight Skin Tones button to automati-
cally paint green on the skin colored areas of the photo.
5 User the Eraser tools to fine-tune the protection and deletion areas.
6 Choose a crop size from the Preset menu on the options bar to reshape the
picture to a specific format. Type in actual dimensions in the Height and
Width text boxes for a custom size or dimensions not listed on the Presets
menu.
7 For custom scaling drag one of the edge or corner handles to alter the shape
of the photo.
8 Click the green tick icon at the bottom of the window to commit to the
transformation.
