Abstract. Most kinetic control systems available domestically, such as dispens-
ing systems, do not have image processing functions. In the paper, image proc-
ess software based on VB language and MATLAB language is designed, and it
is used successfully on a dispensing test system. Degree of automation can be
improved through two functions of the software. One is whether coordinates are
correct or not can be determined from images. The other is real coordinates
from encoders can be read automatically through the image processing. Ex-
periments show the validity of the image process software.
Keywords: Dispensing system, VB, Image process, MATLAB.
1 Introduction
Kinetic control systems as independent industrial automation control products have
been accepted at more and more domains. Enormous amount of monies are put into
by governments and large-scale enterprises for developing their own kinetic control
systems [1]. After developments of many years, as for dispensing systems, techniques
of produces has improved greatly at home, but there are still distances compared with
produces abroad. Moreover, kinetic control systems of dispensing systems available
at home and abroad have no image process functions. Therefore, a solution of image
processing software based on VB and MATLAB language is proposed in the paper.
2 Hybrid Programming of VB Software and MATLAB
There are mainly four interface methods between VB programs and MATLAB pro-
grams: dynamic data exchange technologies, ActiveX technologies, Matrx VB tech-
nologies import and COM technologies import.
(1) Dynamic data exchange technologies. Communications between Microsoft
Window application programs are allowed by exchanging data. Dynamic data
exchange technologies can not work out of MATLAB environments.
